Supreme Court upholds quashing of follower notice (Haworth v HMRC)

The Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed the appeal of HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) and upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal to quash the follower notice handed to Mr Haworth during 2016 with regards to the ‘round the world’ arrangements he entered into for his 2000–01 tax return. SI 2021/778 The Customs Safety and Security Procedures (EU Exit) Regulations 2021

These Regulations have extended for six months the duration of a waiver from the obligation to submit pre-arrival safety and security entry summary declarations for imports from territories where such a declaration was not required before the UK’s exit from the EU. These Regulations bring into force the bulk of the provisions in FA 2021 Sch 18 related to VAT and distance selling from 1 July 2021.
