5.1ÌýÌýÌýÌý Employer registration

Business registration number

New businesses have an obligation to first register an appropriate business structure at the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB). Types of registrations recognised in Uganda are:

  1. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý Sole proprietorship (self-employed)

  2. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý Partnerships – can be up to 20 partners each remaining personally liable for the partnership's debts as a whole

  3. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý Limited company – no minimum capital to start but needs minimum of two directors and one shareholder

  4. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý Company limited by guarantee – memorandum defines the liability of each member, usually used for charities and associations

  5. Ìý

    •ÌýÌýÌýÌý Unlimited company – rarely used, which similarly
