177  Defendant convicted or committed

(1)ÌýÌýÌýÌý This section applies if the following two conditions are satisfied.

(2)ÌýÌýÌýÌý The first condition is that a defendant absconds after—

(a)ÌýÌýÌýÌý he is convicted of an offence or offences in proceedings before the Crown Court, or

(b)ÌýÌýÌýÌý he is committed to the Crown Court in respect of an offence or offences under section 218 below (committal with a view to a confiscation order being considered).

[(2)ÌýÌýÌýÌý The first condition is that a defendant falls within either of the following paragraphs—

(a)ÌýÌýÌýÌý he absconds and, either before or after doing so, he is convicted of an offence or offences in proceedings before the Crown Court;

(b)ÌýÌýÌýÌý he absconds after being committed to the Crown Court in respect of an offence or offences under section 218 below (committal with a view to a confiscation order being considered).]

(3)ÌýÌýÌýÌý The second condition is that—

(a)ÌýÌýÌýÌý the prosecutor . . . applies to the
