What does Procurator Fiscal mean?
A legally qualified public prosecutor within the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) prosecutes criminal matters In the Sheriff and Justice of the Peace Courts and investigates fatal accidents. The service is organised by areas, each administered by a Procurator Fiscal who is the Procurator Fiscal for the Sheriff Court District that is within the area. The Procurator Fiscal decides the criminal procedure and venue to be used, unless that is determined by statute. Actual prosecutions are normally undertaken by depute procurators fiscal.
