Local Safeguarding Children Board definition

What does Local Safeguarding Children Board mean?

Established under the Children act 2004, the objective of the Local Safeguarding Children board (LSCB) is to coordinate what is done by each person or body represented on the Board for the purposes of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children in its area, and to ensure the effectiveness of what is done by each such person or body for those purposes.

County councils and unitary authorities are responsible for establishing an LSCB in their area, appointing the Chair and ensuring that it is run effectively. The LSCB role, functions, governance and operation are set out in Chapter 3 of the statutory guidance 'Working Together to Safeguard Children' (2010).
