The European Parliament's Committees on Foreign Affairs and International Trade recommended giving consent to the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) by overwhelming majority in an extraordinary meeting on 15 April 2021. The committees have lead responsibility for recommending whether or not the European Parliament should consent to the conclusion, on behalf of the EU, of the TCA, which is currently being applied on a provisional basis until 30 April 2021, pending ratification in the EU. Following the committees’ approvals of the consent recommendation, the European Parliament will take its final decision, adopting an accompanying resolution, during a future plenary session. The Conference of Presidents has held off putting this on the agenda of the next plenary (scheduled for 26–29 April 2021), making its scheduling subject to UK’s prior full implementation of the Withdrawal Agreement.
