Our REAL Models series showcases the diverse range of roles we have across our business and we hope to improve knowledge around what it means to be part of something bigger. We believe being part of ÀÏ˾»úÎçÒ¹¸£Àû means being part of the change you want to see in the world.
In this month's edition, we meet:
Mark Wilson, Senior Product Manager
Mark joined the company in 2000 as an Editorial Manager in Tax for the-then Textbooks team, after previously having editorial roles. In 2007, he moved into more technology focused roles, and went into the Content Solutions team in 2007.
Mark started my Product Development career in 2019, with a six-month secondment working as a Product Owner, and after developing a taste for how we maintain products at ÀÏ˾»úÎçÒ¹¸£Àû, he accepted a full-time role with the Product team.
As a Product Manager in Legal markets, Mark's focus is on the support and delivery of Lexis+, and is responsible for Legislation and Search. Mark leads product discover to understand customer needs, using insight gained from discovery and then collaborating with other teams to deliver these solutions, as well as providing support on customer queries.

"My alarm goes off at 7am, but I'm a morning person so I'm usually up and about before then. I take a quick look at the day's headlines before sitting down to read a comic with breakfast, I've been an avid collector of comics and graphic numbers for as long as I can remember. Breakfast is the perfect opportunity to chip away at my ever-growing to-read pile.
"I tend to be at my desk by 7.45am, and usually our Staffie, Stukey, wanders in to say hello, he's definitely not a morning person! It's a nice way to start the day.
"I normally start the working day checking and responding to emails and checking the work tickets, before a stand-up with the development team at 10am. After that, it could be anything at all!
"As a Product Manager, you're always juggling several projects, at several stages. I can go from answering queries from Customer Services, to quality checking, to reporting to stakeholders on project progression to conducting customer interviews, all in quick succession.
"Working on Lexis+ has amplified this, the Product Development team is involved in so many parts of development and the migration process, we all wear multiple hats. We do everything we can to share information amongst the team, being able to support each other is key to our success."
We've announced the launch of of commercial preview of Lexis+ AI in the UK. Lexis+ AI has been carefully trained on UK law and legal cases.
"It's not really one skill, but I continue to be surprised that what I learnt at University has been so important to what I do at ÀÏ˾»úÎçÒ¹¸£Àû. For years, I wondered what I'd gotten out of doing a History degree, but now I realise it was less about the Crusades of the War of the Roses, and more about the analytical skills I developed that have been essential throughout my career. Breaking things down into cause and effect, and seeing patterns is what allows me to do the problem-solving I do on a daily basis, while all those essays and tutorials helped me to develop the communication skills that have been core to my success at ÀÏ˾»úÎçÒ¹¸£Àû."
"Delivering a new feature or enhancement, seeing that customers are using it and hearing from colleagues how it's made a difference."
"Not hanging up when I found out the author I was speaking to was in the bath."
"I try to finish for about 5pm so I can make the most of the evening. We moved to Norwich just over a year ago, and while it's only a 20-minute walk into town, we're not too far from the cost, so last summer we regularly drove to one of Norfolk's beautiful beaches to take Stukey for a walk. We've stayed closer to home since the clocks have changed, but there's always a walk for the dog, making dinner, squeezing in some time on the PlayStation, and later, TV.
And, I'd by lying if I said we didn't sometimes make use of the many fantastic pubs we have on our doorstep..."
"I spent more time watching TV than thinking about jobs, so this would be a toss-up between stuntman; young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless."
My wife, Sarah. We met at ÀÏ˾»úÎçÒ¹¸£Àû and while that sometimes means it's all too easy to talk about work out of hours, it also means we both have someone who understands what the other is going through. We've both had challenges at work, thankfully never at the same time, and the support and advice we've been able to give to each other, the opportunity to bounce ideas around, has been invaluable.
It's also helpful to have a direct link to Go to Market just on the other side of my office wall..."
"Not so much career advice as advice for life, but my dad told me to treat people in the way that I'd want to be treated myself, and it's always stood my in good stead. It was a solid yardstick for all the years I managed people, and it's served me well in building up both the internal and external relationships that have been so vital in all my roles at ÀÏ˾»úÎçÒ¹¸£Àû."
"You just realise that you don't know everything there is to know. The older I get, the less I know, and that's a good thing. When I was young, I knew everything, and everything wasn't necessarily good.
